AI System Introduce in Supreme Court for Case Allocation
The Supreme Court of India has decided to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) for case listing and bench allocation to reduce human involvement. The decision was taken by Surya Kant.
The reform started after an investigation found problems like long-term registry officials and outdated technology, which sometimes caused mistakes in case allocation.
The issue came up during a hearing of a petition filed by Irfan Solanki challenging the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 1986. The Uttar Pradesh government said a similar case had already been dismissed earlier.
After this lapse, the Chief Justice ordered a probe and decided to introduce an AI-based system in the Supreme Court administration.
